Business card scanner for Bitrix24
Cards from the stand land as Bitrix24 CRM leads, through an inbound webhook you create in your own portal. Nothing to install and no app to approve.
How it works
Somebody on your stand photographs a card with the CardParse app. The card is parsed into named fields, anything the parser is unsure about is flagged for a person to check rather than guessed at, and the contact appears in your dashboard.
A CRM lead in your portal, ready to convert into a company, a contact and a deal when it is worth one. The fields that make the journey are below.
Connecting it
In Bitrix24, open Developer resources, then Other, then Inbound webhook. Tick the crm and user_brief scopes, copy the URL it generates, and paste it into CardParse.
Scanning works with no signal. Cards queue on the phone and upload themselves when the connection comes back, which matters more at a trade show than anywhere else: a hall full of people is a hall full of phones fighting over the same cell.
Automatically, or when you say so
Each destination is set to one or the other. Automatic means every card arrives within seconds of being scanned, with anything flagged for review held back until somebody confirms it. The alternative is that nothing leaves on its own: you select the contacts you want on the contacts table and press send, whenever you are ready.
Which one suits depends on the show. A stand qualifying as it goes usually wants to check before sending; a stand collecting as fast as it can usually does not.
Worth knowing
- The webhook URL is the credential. Anyone holding it can act on your portal, so CardParse encrypts it at rest and never shows it again after you paste it. Revoke it in Bitrix24 to cut the connection instantly.
- A lead, not a contact. Somebody whose card you took is somebody you met and have not qualified, which is what a lead is for, and it is where Bitrix24 conversion starts: one action turns a lead into a company, a contact and a deal together.
- Company name arrives on the lead as plain text, and the conversion turns it into the real company record. That is the other reason for a lead: a Bitrix24 contact has no company name field at all, only a link to a company that would have to exist already.
- Every lead gets a name in the list, taken from the person and the company on the card. Map something to TITLE if you would rather choose it yourself.
- Map Scanned by to ASSIGNED_BY_ID and the lead is assigned to whoever took the card, matched on their email address. That is what the user_brief scope is for. Without it the lead still arrives, assigned to whoever Bitrix24 would have picked.
- Notes go to the comment field, which Bitrix24 renders as BB code. A note containing square brackets will show as formatting.
