How it works

Somebody on your stand photographs a card with the CardParse app. The card is parsed into named fields, anything the parser is unsure about is flagged for a person to check rather than guessed at, and the contact appears in your dashboard.

An item on the board you pick, named after the person, with each mapped field written to one of that board’s columns.

Connecting it

In monday, click your profile picture, choose Developers, then API token, and copy the personal token. Paste it into CardParse and pick which board the cards should land on.

Scanning works with no signal. Cards queue on the phone and upload themselves when the connection comes back, which matters more at a trade show than anywhere else: a hall full of people is a hall full of phones fighting over the same cell.

Automatically, or when you say so

Each destination is set to one or the other. Automatic means every card arrives within seconds of being scanned, with anything flagged for review held back until somebody confirms it. The alternative is that nothing leaves on its own: you select the contacts you want on the contacts table and press send, whenever you are ready.

Which one suits depends on the show. A stand qualifying as it goes usually wants to check before sending; a stand collecting as fast as it can usually does not.

Worth knowing

• There is no fixed field list here, because a monday board has whatever columns you made. When you pick a board, CardParse reads its columns and proposes a mapping from them, which you can change or switch off before anything syncs.
• Email, phone, website and date columns are matched by their type, so they are found whatever you called them. Plain text columns are matched by name, and anything CardParse is unsure of is left unmapped rather than guessed, because a field quietly written to the wrong column is worse than one you can see is empty.
• A personal API token is what connects it, which means it carries your own permissions, does not expire, and stops working if you leave the company. CardParse encrypts it and never shows it again. Revoke it in monday to cut the connection.
• Column types CardParse cannot format are skipped rather than guessed at. Status, people and dropdown columns each want a value from a list your board defines, which is not something that can be read off a business card.
